April 22, 2013

Around 8:00am the morning of April 20, the city of Ya'an in Sichuan province was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, causing great devastation and loss of life. By 10:00am, members of Shantui's Earthmoving Equipment Department, Domestic Marketing Department, and Department of Culture formed a response team, coordinating with the Jining Armed Forces Department and officials from Sichuan to determine the needs of the relief effort at the disaster site. Mr. Owen Zhang, Chairman of Shantui, stated: "As a former state enterprise, and a member of Chinese society, we have never hesitated to help those struck by disaster, and this time is no exception."

At 5:00pm April 20, the aid convoy left Jining for Ya'an, loaded with two SD22 bulldozers, water, food, and medical supplies. After encountering heavy traffic in Henan province, the relief team contacted provincial traffic officials in Henan and Shaanxi to help clear the path to Sichuan. After 28 hours of travel, the team finally arrived in Ya'an on April 21, and are currently assisting efforts on-site.
