The Top Driver 2016 program, run by Chinese equipment manufacturer SDLG, has officially kicked off. The contest incorporates the country’s largest construction charity event ‘Top Drivers Environmental Volunteer Action’ and this year SDLG is involving the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in the campaign.
To renew its commitment to environmental protection, Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (known as Lingong), signed a global partnership agreement with the WWF in Yunfu, Guangdong province prior to the official launch of the Top Driver campaign in the city. ‘Top Drivers Environmental Volunteer Action’ is part of the Top Driver 2016 campaign which promotes improved safety and operator efficiency while searching across China to find the country’s number one machine operator. The initiative is SDLG’s latest effort to educate machine operators on good practice. SDLG co-organized a seminar on green practices with the WWF in June and hundreds of volunteers from the Top Driver campaign took part in a tree-planting event as part of the mine environmental management plan in Yunfu. The volunteer action efforts will be carried out alongside theoretical and practical tests for participants in the contest as well as free-of-charge professional training for those starting out in a career in equipment operation.
Commitment to environmental protection
The WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organization. SDLG’s cooperation with the WWF dates back to 2012 when the company pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.65 million tons in three years through improving production facilities. This was not only honored but continued after the target was met. In response to the tier 3 legislation which recently came into effect, the company rolled out its latest F-Series machines which reduce emissions. In the next five years, SDLG will invest more than 300 million renminbi in a ‘smart manufacturing’ project in partnership with the School of Software of Tsinghua University. The project aims to establish intelligent plants in pursuit of zero emissions in production.
“The Top Driver program has enjoyed huge success and SDLG is now shifting the focus of the campaign and transforming it into an annual environmental charity event,” said Wen Degang, general manager of SDLG. “As a global partner of the WWF, SDLG will raise environmental awareness among its customers and machine operators. We will spread the word about environmental causes through the Top Driver campaign.”
Launched in 2013, the Top Driver program has nurtured a pool of talent, helping people excel in their lives and at work. In a recent post-event survey, 85% of respondents said they hoped to take on more charitable work in future and praised the program for helping them boost their skill levels.
Fulfilling promises
In the midst of major social and economic transformations in China, SDLG wants to show its determination and leadership in reducing emissions and stepping up environmental causes both inside and outside the industry in an effort to encourage other companies to follow suit.
SDLG is looking to grow its Top Driver program, those interested can find out more about this year’s event at: http://www.sdlgtopdriverclub.com/
