SDLG goes from strength to strength in India

October 26, 2016

Sales of SDLG-brand equipment have increased over 200% since the company launched into India, with strong uptake from customers in the ports, mining and quarrying sectors.
In its first year of operations in India back in 2010, just a handful of SDLG machines were sold. But by 2015 annual sales of SDLG equipment were already into the hundreds. And 2016 looks like it will be the best ever year for the company in India - building on the momentum built up last year, which was its previous best year, with sales jumping 35%.
Unsurprisingly SDLG’s offering of robust and reliable products in a cost-effective package is particularly attractive to equipment owners in India. Equally important has been the role of the dealer network. Back in 2010, SDLG took the strategic decision to introduce its products through 14 dealer partners spread across India, working with established equipment companies that can provide the product knowledge and parts support that SDLG demands.
As with many other markets worldwide, the wheel loaders from SDLG are the most popular product in India. There are two classes sold in the country, the LG936L and LG938L in the 3 ton class; and the LG958L in the 5 ton class. All are equipped with Tier III engines, with power outputs ranging from 97 kW at 2,200 rpm to 160 kW at 2,000 rpm. Bucket capacities vary from 1.5 m3 up to 4.5 m3.
The wheel loaders from SDLG have proved particularly popular in dockside applications at India’s ports. Here their reliable and durable performance makes them profitable machines while the shorter working lives of equipment in this industry are less of a concern given SDLG’s cost effective proposition and the fast return on investment the machines deliver. The best-in-class fuel consumption levels for the loaders is also making them popular in other applications, including work at ready mix concrete or metal crushing plants, or in industries associated to road building.

In addition to wheel loaders, the G9190 grader has been impressing on job sites across India. Powered by a Tier III Deutz engine that delivers 146 kW at 2,100 rpm, the G9190 delivers reliable and assured performance on highway projects and its 3.63 m blade allows it to cover more ground in a single pass. With road building work on the rise in India, further demand is expected in the coming months, as the Government of India continues towards its goal of creating 30 km of new road a day over the course of this year.

Sanu George, business head for SDLG in India, said that because SDLG products fit so well in a variety of applications, the outlook for the company remains bright.

“For 2016 we expect greater interest in SDLG road machinery as existing projects look to boost productivity, while new projects simultaneously come on line,” he said. “We are also expecting growing

demand for wheel loaders in the mining and quarrying industries, together with ongoing interest from the ports sector.”
